Overlook Hospital Foundation Grant

man holding checkWe proudly announce that the Operation Bling Foundation has been awarded a $10,000 grant from the Overlook Hospital Foundation! These funds will be used specifically to provide Bling Gifts to Overlook Hospital oncology patients! This grant will take care of "blinging" in Overlook well into 2010!  Talk about being excited and grateful...I am so thankful! I made a photo copy of the check...because it was so pretty!!! Imagine, $10,000 of Bling! FYI... we have it figured out that it costs us approximately $15,000 per hospital to start up and sustain one hospital in all of its various oncology departments for one year!!! Thank you to Ann Oliva and all of your board members of the Overlook Hospital Foundation! Bling on!

Announcing Online Donations
Operation Bling is now accepting online donations!  We just went live with it this week! Online donations are fast becoming the favored way to make donations out there in the not-for-profit world! We are very excited to be able to offer this option to our supporters! It is fully secure and one hundred percent tax deductable! We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover! I have been playing around with some numbers just to inspire you.....We have 450 people on our newsletter email list...if half of them donated $10.00, that would add up to $2,250.00...$25.00 would be $5,625.00...$50.00 would be $11,250.00!!! Imagine the possiblities!

Please visit our web site operationbling.org and give it a whirl! Remember, Operation Bling started with a prayer and a dollar! Our "shoot for the moon" goal was $5,000 for our first year, $10,000 for our second year and we thought we were really dreaming when we planned for $30,000 for our third year! Our amazing news is....Operation Bling has taken in during our first fiscal year over $62,000!!!...and that is not including the Overlook Hospital Foundation grant! An important fact too is our administration costs are only 4.8%! Our treasurer said that is very impressive! So you see, every little bit really DOES help and really DOES add up to A LOT.....of "BLING"!
Thank You!

Mimi Gelbman of MMH just
 hosted a "Bling Party"
fundraiser this morning
to benefit
Morristown Memorial's
"blinging"!
We sold $1,150.00
of Bling Gifts!
Thank you to the staff
of MMH for
your generous support of
Operation Bling!

After the party we left our Bling Angel, Christine Berkson, "blinging" patients in the infusion room and bringing smiles to all to whom she blinged!

Bling On Christine!
...and Thank You Mimi!

Expansions

hospital cartoonOperation Bling is now partnering with the American Cancer Society by "blinging" the women who come into their West Orange office for wigs! This office provides approximately 150 free wigs a year to women who cannot otherwise afford them.  I had a conversation with Diane Berry of the American Cancer Society at Relay For Life in Berkeley Heights about how transforming it is when a person is "blinged"! I have witnessed their color actually change in their faces! Diane shared a similar story when she had whitnessed a woman come into the West Orange office and walk out with a wig on! I suggested that the American Cancer Society needed a stash of "Bling" there too for these same women! Operation Bling and the American Cancer Society...."PERFECT TOGETHER"! How cool is that?!!!

As far as expanding to other hospitals...We have dates with two more area hospitals in the next couple of weeks! We also have our sights on a hospital down the shore too! Trudy, our quintessential Bling Angel, is moving to a home five minutes from a shore hospital who is affiliated with the Cancer Institute of New Jersey. Because Morristown and Overlook are also affiliated with CINJ, we should find it easy to get in there with Bling!

Operation Bling's mission is "to give sparkling jewels --for free to keep forever-- to cancer patients during their hospital stay, bringing them cheer and pleasure!"

Thank you for your continued friendship, love, and support of the Operation Bling Foundation

Much love,

Christine and Bill Ferdinand
