In late February 2008, Chris Ferdinand of Morris Township, NJ, began the Operation Bling Foundation. As the owner of Ferdinand Jewelers in New Providence, NJ with her husband Bill, they learned that a long-time customer and friend, Barbara, was in the hospital battling ovarian cancer.
